The stars of Disney Channel’s original movie franchise Descendants are mourning the loss of their Carlos.

China McClain, Thomas Doherty and more actors from the films are speaking out after Cameron Boyce’s sudden death. Us Weekly previously confirmed that the 20-year-old actor was found dead at his North Hollywood home on Saturday, July 6.

“It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron,” a spokesperson told Us on behalf of Boyce’s family. “He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him.”

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, Boyce’s cause of death is under investigation.

“An autopsy was performed today and a cause of death was deferred pending further investigation,” the department said in a press release on Monday, July 8.

After appearing in Grown Ups alongside Adam Sandler, Boyce rose to fame on Disney Channel’s Jessie and its spinoff, Bunk’d. The child star then booked the role of Cruella De Vil’s son, Carlos, in the 2015 DCOM Descendants. He reprised his part alongside Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Booboo Stewart and Mitchell Hope for the sequel, Descendants 2, in 2017. The third movie with the original cast, Descendants 3, is set to air on Disney Channel Friday, August 2, at 8 p.m. ET.

Boyce was also part of the animated series spinoff, Descendants: Wicked World. The network reacted to the news of Boyce’s passing in a statement on Sunday, July 7.

“From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world. As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples’ lives through his humanitarian work,” a Disney Channel spokesperson said. “He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend. We offer our deepest condolences to his family, cast mates and colleagues and join his many millions of fans in grieving his untimely passing. He will be dearly missed.”

China McClain

The Black Lighting actress portrays Uma, the daughter of Ursula, in the film franchise. McClain posted a series of tearful videos after news of Boyce’s death broke.

“I don’t really believe that this is actually happening and my mind is just shut down at this point and I’m feeling numb and empty, while going through the emotions,” she said on Sunday. “To Mr. Vic, Mrs. Libby and Maya … I’m so sorry. You guys lost something that the rest of us didn’t lose. You guys lost a son, a brother, and I lost, my best friend…my closest friend, my longest friend. I will never again have a friend like Cameron.”

McClain added that she was wearing her late friend’s hat that she meant to give back to him before his passing. “This was actually his hat. He left it in my room when we were filming Descendants 2,” she recalled. “When we were going to film Descendants 3, I packed it and was going to give it back to him. He didn’t believe that I remembered that. I had planned to give it back to him, but it didn’t happen. And I’m so happy I didn’t. It feels like God left it for me, and He knew it was going to mean so much more than just being Cam’s hat.”

His talent, immeasurable. His kindness and generosity, overflowing. It has been an indescribable honor and pleasure to know and work with him. Keegan Connor Tracy

Tracy, who plays Belle, shared a lengthy message to her late costar.

“Darling, sweet Cameron. I find this news unfathomable, that a brilliant light such as yours could be gone. I think immediately of your beautiful smile, your infectious energy and your absolutely boundless talent,” Tracy began on Instagram, “You, the baby of the crew, so young they were forever pumpkining you out for ‘fake Carlos’. To have watched you spin your way through these years with kindness and humility and just begin to come into your own…it is cruel and ugly to see that taken away. I send an ocean of love to your family with whom you were so close and who must be drowning in heartache. As a mother I simply cannot comprehend.”

She concluded: “It is small comfort that at least you shone more brightly in your few years than most do in a lifetime. Dance through the stars, keep shining. I just still cannot believe.”

Thank you for your kindness and your light and thank you for being someone I could look up to as an actor and as a person. Cameron, you will forever be in our hearts♥️.”

“Dear @libboyce @thevictorboyce @maya.elan , I am so sorry. Your son truly was a gift to this world,” she wrote. “The first time I ever met him was at the Descendants audition and I was star struck. His smile lit up the lobby. Then to have the opportunity to work with him was just an honor. His talent was magical. His love for his family and friends and life and work were deep and true. To know him was to know that he loved his mom and dad and sister fiercely. I am beyond heartbroken. Victor, Libby, and Maya, you are in my thoughts and prayers and I will forever be inspired by your son/brother to live my life more fully like he did.”
