Kim Says Medication Isn't an Option for Kanye, Plus More 'Vogue' Revelations

After a rocky 2018, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have found a system that works for them regarding the musician’s mental health.

“I think we’re in a pretty good place with it now,” the 38-year-old KKW Beauty creator revealed in her May 2019 Vogue cover story. “It is an emotional process, for sure. Right now everything is really calm. But we can definitely feel episodes coming, and we know how to handle them.”

The 41-year-old rapper, who was previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder, made headlines several times last year for his controversial comments. During a live appearance on TMZ that May, West faced backlash after he suggested that “400 years” of slavery “sounds like a choice.” The Grammy winner was also under fire for his support of President Donald Trump and lengthy Twitter rants about politics.

While Kardashian admitted to Entertainment Tonight at the time that she cried over the aforementioned slavery remarks, she told Vogue that she “stopped caring” what other people think because West “really is the sweetest person with the biggest heart.”

A source previously told Us Weekly that Kardashian feels “protective” over West.

“She tried pointing out to Kanye that the posts were only adding to speculation about his mental health, and just wanted him to realize that,” the source said in April 2018.

Us broke the news in January that the twosome are set to welcome their fourth child, a baby boy, via surrogate. According to a second source, Kardashian made sure her husband was in the “best state of mind while they were trying for another child.”

“Kim wanted their carrier to be pregnant shortly after Chicago’s birth, but they put those plans on hold when Kanye was having his issues this year,” the source said in January. “Kanye has been great. He’s been healthy, happy and his head is clear. They are both very excited for this new baby.”

Kardashian and West, who wed in 2014, are also parents of daughter North, 5, son Saint, 3, and 11-month-old daughter Chicago, whom they welcomed via surrogacy in January 2018.

Bipolar Medication Is Not an ‘Option’ for Kanye

“For him, being on medication is not really an option, because it just changes who he is,” Kim explained, noting that traveling strongly affects his mental health. “He doesn’t travel as much as he used to.”

She added that she does “everything to be supportive” and “help to calm the situation” if West is “in the middle of a bipolar episode.”

Kanye’s Political Comments Gave Kim Anxiety

The reality star insisted that her husband “doesn’t represent either side” when it comes to politics. “But he doesn’t want to be told what he should be. It can be confusing,” Kardashian told Vogue. “I get it. The one thing that I respect so much is that he is who he is, no matter what anyone tries to tell him to do.”

Still, Kardashian admitted that West’s political commentary gave her anxiety and was “an issue” in their relationship. “I can be sitting there crying: ‘OH, MY GOD! TAKE OFF THE RED HAT!’”

Kim Will Take the ‘Baby Bar’ this Summer

Kardashian, who began a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco, is studying to take the “baby bar” over the summer, which will allow her to continue studying if she passes. Her goal is to take the official bar in 2022. “First year of law school you have to cover three subjects: criminal law, torts, and contracts,” Kardashian said. “To me, torts is the most confusing, contracts the most boring, and crim law I can do in my sleep. Took my first test, I got a 100. Super easy for me. The reading is what really gets me. It’s so time-consuming. The concepts I grasp in two seconds.”

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, who is working with two mentor lawyers, is required to log 18 hours of supervised study before she takes the exam.

Kim Used to Snoop Through Her Dad’s O.J. Evidence

The Selfish author revealed that she used to sneak into her father Robert Kardashian’s office, which he shared with Johnnie Cochran and Bob Shapiro, on the weekends during the O.J. Simpson trial. “My dad had a library, and when you pushed on this wall there was this whole hidden closet room, with all of his O.J. evidence books,” she said. “On weekends I would always snoop and look through. I was really nosy about the forensics.”

Kim ‘Ships Kendall With a Kennedy

After a Vogue crew member pointed out that Caroline Kennedy’s son, John Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg, reportedly has a crush on Kardashian’s sister Kendall Jenner, the reality personality approved. “I bought Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s watch at auction,” she noted. “I wore it when I went to the White House. It gave me some power: Let’s get in there and get this done!”
