An Oscar-Worthy Moment

Gaga and Cooper delivered a swoon-worthy performance of “Shallow” at the 91st annual Academy Awards in February 2019. While the actor’s girlfriend, Irina Shayk, looked on in the audience, fans on Twitter were instantly convinced that the costars had real feelings for each other after the performance.

His Support System

“She really gave me the confidence,” Cooper told Vogue in September 2018 of Gaga’s assistance in helping him gain the momentum to channel his inner singer to portray Jackson. Gaga added: “He sings from his gut, from the nectar. I knew instantly: This guy could play a rock star. And I don’t think there are a lot of people in Hollywood who can. That was the moment I knew this film could be something truly special.”

His Biggest Fan

After Cooper was snubbed of an Oscar nomination for his directorial debut, the “Born This Way” songstress expressed her gratitude to him, revealing he’s “the best director” in her eyes. “I know that he’s so happy that we’ve all been nominated and that the film was recognized and we all feel really, really beyond elated for the recognition,” Gaga told the Los Angeles Times in January 2019.

Back to Their Roots

The Hangover star also dished on bonding with Gaga over their heritage. “I didn’t know you were Italian,” Cooper recalled at the Venice Film Festival, speaking directly to the Grammy winner. “I remember when we first met, after 10 minutes we were eating homemade food that she cooked – I love to eat – and that was actually a huge bond that we both came from East Coast Italian-American families. So we had a real synchronicity on that level from our upbringing.”

Taking Their Show on the Road

The American Sniper star joined Gaga on stage during a January 2019 concert in Las Vegas where the two performed the hit song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born. The crowd went wild as the pair belted out the duet for the first time live at the pop star’s Enigma residency.
